How to Get Verified on Instagram in 3 Simple Steps

How to Get Verified on Instagram in 3 Simple Steps

Are you a big brand, artiste or entertainer? Are you famous? Do you think you are at risk of getting impersonated? Then Instagram verification is probably for you.

You see, a lot of people want to get verified on Instagram, yet, but they do not meet the criteria. The key element in the criteria actually is: “Are you at risk of being impersonated?”. Yes, that is what Instagram really cares about. You could be an entertainer, famous (in your own right), have a lot of followers but Instagram doesn’t feel like anyone would want to be you. And that’s okay.

On the other hand, if you are famous and are at risk of being impersonated, Instagram wants to verify your account. Sadly, getting a request across to them before now has been a chore. You might have to go through a publicist, a digital agency who’s an Instagram partner, etc. And sometimes all of this could cost you a pretty penny. Well, here’s the good news: you no longer need to do any of that. You can get verified right from within your settings on your Instagram app. We’ll walk you through the process.

Step 1: Open your settings

Click on the gear on the top right hand corner of your Instagram profile

Step 2: Select ‘Request Verification’ from your settings

Within your settings, select “Request Verification

Step 3: Upload your ID

When the page opens, you will see a space to confirm your identity and upload some identification. If you’re an individual, any National ID will do (i.e. your driver’s licence, International Passport data page, Voter’s Card, National ID Card, etc.). For an organisation, you need your Certificate of Registration, Tax Clearance or anything else that can prove that your account truly represents your organisation.

Some things to note

  1. Submitting a request does not automatically mean you will get verified. It’s up to Instagram to decide whether or not you fit the bill.
  2. *We realise that it is not everyone that has this option in their settings. So, if you check your settings and you don’t have the “Request Verification” option, update your app to the latest version, and if you still don’t have the option, then…
  3. Yes, we realise that UBS Digital has not yet been verified. And that’s ok :-).

We hope this helps someone out there.  If you’ve had any interesting experiences while trying to get verified, please share with us. We’d love to hear all about it.
